Horizontal goes from 1 to N while vertical goes from 0 to 1. Horizontal = globalization while vertical = technology I interpreted this more as, horizontal = building by analogy. So someone sees Snapchat and builds a “disapearing texting app”. Or Vine tries to build “instagram for video” and then Vertical is when you define a new category. Musk often talks about trying to build vertically using “first principle theory”
